Monday Meals: Saturn Cafe

Lookin' to go on an extraplanetary adventure?
A blast from the past, Saturn Cafe is a fusion of old and new with its retro decor but vegetarian menu.

Each table is unique, decorated with different pop culture memorabilia. This one happens to be Lucille Ball themed. A+ decorating IMO.

And screen siren themed? YES PLEASE. (There's even a pair of falsies!)

“At the risk of seeming ridiculous, let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love. It is impossible to think of a genuine revolutionary lacking this quality.”
 -Che Guevara
(Did I mention that this is a restaurant in Berkeley?)

But back to the food. Diners = milkshakes. We had to get some and since the flavor of the month happened to be pumpkin, guess what we ordered? So good.

And as I love soup I also was inclined to order their signature tomato soup. Unlike other tomato soups, this was definitely lighter and better spiced. You can even see the flecks of the spices used in this picture. Definitely worth a try.

Intrigued by vegetarian meat options, I ordered the breakfast platter as well. The vegetarian bacon was interesting to say the least—it had the flavor of bacon but the texture of a potato chip. Kinda weird but props to the people who tried to replicate the taste of the almighty god of all meats.

Potato ordered their Diablo burger mainly because she loves spicy food. The burger itself is a veggie patty with jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, chipotle sauces, grilled onions, lettuce, and tomato. She informs me that it's a pretty hot burger so beware those who have a more sensitive palate than others.

Yeah, so we love our retro diners but who doesn't? Compared to Bette's Diner (check our our review of another retro diner), I would say the food isn't quite as good but if atmosphere is what you're looking for, Saturn has it and much more.
